Story
Hi and thank you for taking the time to read our JustGiving donation page which we have set up in aid to provide Oliver with the best prosthetic leg and equipment for now and the future.
At birth, unbeknownst to us apart from a small red patch, Oliver had what we now know as plexiform schwannoma’s (nerve tumors) rapidly growing at the bottom of his left leg and behind his left knee. The tumor behind his knee was removed in January 2017 but unfortunately a later MRI scan showed that there were 2 smaller tumors growing back. The legion on his lower leg consisted of a mass of tumors growing on the surface of the skin and around his bone which deformed his tibia and ankle. This meant the only option was amputation.
On the 2nd June 2017 at the age of 14 months, Oliver underwent an above knee amputation. This was and still is devastating for us as a family and has given us even more strength and determination to give our little boy the best possible start in life.
The short term aim of this page is to raise some money towards specialist equipment Oliver will need in his early years and ultimately we would love to be able to purchase running blades throughout Oliver’s childhood. A Government scheme that currently fund prostheses and research is due to expire in 2018 with no guaranteed future plans.
The only way we can ensure and secure these specialist sports limbs are to fund them ourselves. The socket alone can cost £3000 and will need to be replaced every 6-9 months depending on his growth rate and the blade, at a cost of £2000 will need to be replaced annually.
By donating, you are funding Oliver with the right lightweight limbs and equipment for him the freedom to live a bright and happy future, playing with his friends with a spring in his step.
Thank you all again for reading Oliver’s story and considering donating. Every donation will be appreciated so much and as parents we just want to give Oliver the best. To read more about Oliver’s story and to follow his journey, please visit his website - Inmyfootsteps.co.uk
