On the 13th September 2026 members of Zackary and Karlene’s family will be running the Great North Run in memory of Zackary and Karlene. All money raised will be going towards a Together Retreat.

On the 31st May 2024, our whole world was shattered. Shalorna was travelling home with my 8-month-old baby, Zackary, who was securely fastened in his ISOFIX car seat and her sister Karlene, also wearing her seatbelt. A car, speeding at 141mph. Driving a shocking three times over the drink-drive limit, ploughed into the back of us. The driver was also using his mobile phone, snapping a photo moments before the fatal collision with my car clearly visible in the photo and amber light flashing on his dashboard indication immediate collision. Her sister was killed instantly, and her son was propelled 50 meters away from her car, he too, killed on impact.

Zackary and Karlene were taken to RVI Newcastle hospital mortuary. Newcastle hospital had a Haven Room which can be used for families needing a quiet, private place at such a hard time. The room had its own small kitchen, chairs, toilet and shower. This really helped our family as it was somewhere we could all be together in a safe place.

We as a family have decided we would like to create something in Zackary and Karlene’s memory and came up with the idea of a Together Retreat for families going through a traumatic time and need a place to escape or relax either or alone or with their family.

So I am asking if you could please kindly donate and hopefully we can make this happen for Zackary and Karlene.
