Story
I severely injured my arm 4 months before the Rio Olympics. Leading up to this, I had hit my qualification total 3 times the previous year and even after the final qualifying event, I was the only male weightlifter to make their qualifying total but a serious injury stopped me going and left me with an 18 month recovery time from reconstructive elbow surgery. Since then I've won a silver medal at the Commonwealth games and I want to finish my career at the Olympics in Tokyo.
British Weightlifting only receive funding for grass roots. This means if you are now competing internationally, you have to self fund all competitions. For the Tokyo Olympics, this is 6 International events with an average cost of £1500 per event which you must compete in. I will be undertaking teacher training 4 days per week in school (and 1 day at university), working for Wisdom4Weightlifting to raise funds and training for the Olympics but this won't cover the competition costs and I won't have time for extra work as I will be in school full time; and so I'm reaching out for help to get me to these competitions and hopefully the Olympic Games
