My name is Tom Huber and I'm a 38 year old mental health counsellor living in Suffolk,England. Over the last 4 years of the ten I've been a counsellor I've focused my work on tackling the crises of youth mental health. In my own youth I battled addiction,depression and isolation. Getting treatment in my mid 20s literally saved my life. So what I do is a vocation to me,I counsel with absolute dedication. I've a strong commitment to ensure that quality means tested and affordable counselling is available to our young for as long as it may be required.

I'm a private counsellor that has chosen to dedicate my time and practice to bettering the treatment options available. Due to the age and circumstances of the majority of my referrals,Im often not able to charge more than what covers rent of premises(this averages £10per hour). This tends to mean I earn nothing or very little for each session I facilitate.

Yes families have an option of support through statutory funded services(and these do great work)however the reality is this is often not adequate in terms of short time frames (4-6 sessions) and excessive case loads. It is my role to provide adaptable counselling to young people for as long as it's required. In many cases this is not just to 'fix' a problem or diagnosis. What is often required is long term regular sessions simply to support around times of great hardship. These youth are going through all manner of issues from the loss of a parent,bullying,historic physical/sexual abuse,depression,anxiety and poverty.

So essentially I am trying to raise enough money to provide £200 worth of counselling to 10 Suffolk based low income deprived young people. (I often support and give guidance to connected parents/carers where suitable to)

Im many cases I'm their only and I'd like to think,best option so turning them away for financial reasons is something I'm just not willing to do. £2000 will provide a minimum of ten sessions to ten different individuals over these summer weeks and beyond.

Im an accredited and experienced counsellor who's profile can be found on the counselling directory and online search 'Tom Huber Counsellor' This is and will likely be the area I dedicate my working life to,what's available to them at present is just not enough and often not suitable. I'm in this to make lasting differences,raise awareness,reduce stigma,improve reputations and just create happier futures for struggling kids.
