Story

Hi!

In June of this year, I will be climbing 7 Munros (mountains in Scotland over 3,000ft high) in a single day to raise awareness of a fundraising effort for an important cause.

I'm taking on this challenge as I'm working as part of Engineers in Action (EIA) to provide a vital service to an underserved rural community in Eswatini, Africa, through the construction of a footbridge in the Summer of 2022.

During periods of heavy rainfall, routes become impassable and access to essential services is cut for local communities in the region. The bridge we will be building will solve this problem, and will improve connections to neighbouring services and communities. This will provide greater employment prospects for the community, greater access to healthcare, improved education for children within the area, and better access to clean water and sanitation.

We are aiming to build a long-lasting addition to the local community which will continue to improve the lives of individuals for generations to come and we hope that this change will act as a platform for further growth and improvement in quality of life for people living in this region.

Construction of a previous (2021) EIA project in Eswatini:

All donations will go towards vital building materials & services to construct the bridge. While I will be travelling to the country to take part in the final four weeks of construction, as an unpaid volunteer, I will be supporting myself in terms of travel and living expenses during my involvement with the project.

I hope you will join me in getting behind this important cause and assist in raising awareness as we aim to complete this project!

Thanks for your support!
