Story

Charity work has always been something I've admired, but never had the chance to do as a teenager. Now is my time to give back. The charity I am supporting is one that gives hope and saves lives to people that need it most. I went to visit GRENDACC in Brazil in 2017. GRENDACC is a charity hospital that supports children with cancer in Jundiai (Sao Paulo).

AIM: My aim is to raise 1000 pounds for GRENDACC to help fund treatments for children with cancer.

HOW: I have set out on a mission to cycle from Manchester to Paris. 1 man, 1 bike, 495 miles and lives saved.

WHY: In 2009, my mum lost the love of her life, whilst my siblings and I lost our dad to a fight with cancer. In the UK, we are blessed with the NHS and there is so much support out there for families going through that fight. However, in Jundiai, there is only support for the rich, as cancer treatment is too expensive for the average family. This is where GRENDACC gets involved.

Funded from donations and 1000's of hours of volunteering from the locals, GRENDACC provides hope for children and their families when they are in their worst times. Doctors give life saving treatment whilst volunteers teach the children and parents how to sew and cook when special dietary requirements are needed.

As the creators of the charity themselves state:

"A vida so e digina de ser vivida, quando se faz algo pela vida em vida"

"A life is only worth living, if you do something in life, for life itself".
