Why am I doing this? (Cos I’m MAD)

I’m doing it because I couldn't find anyone else who is. Its called Daylight because its all about getting humans out of the shadows and into some DAYLIGHT!

Intro

I had this idea ages ago to put on a Jungle/DnB Event for Adults with Disabilities. Its been a Mission and I have a venue , clientele and a date! What I now need is some money towards paying for the venue costs because we still need pay the staffs wages. The event is being run as a subsidised event so everyone is chipping in a little bit. Tickets are £5(inc free carers ticket) More info below the boring bit….

If I can raise £1500 I will cover the costs

If I can Raise £2000 I will comfortably cover the costs and have a little left over for another event.

If I can get £2500 I can do the above and do some donations to charities that have helped along the way.

If I can get £20,000 then I can run the event for a year.

If I can get over £20,000, there are some other ideas I can use that money for such as First Aid Training, maybe getting a little DJ set up for some community projects as well, but this is a great unknown.

In my dreams I would love to get some adapted vehicles so we can take a group of Adults with Disabilities and their Carers to something like Sun and Bass in Sardinia or JungleDam in Amsterdam. The dream gets a bit bigger though. I’m thinking we need a C130 Hercules piloted by Gary Numan and Bruce Dickinson to get us out there.———————————————————————————————————————————Event Details…

The Story...

My brother had Spina Bifida and died in 2000. I was finally diagnosed with Crohn's in 2011.

My brother did his best to get out and enjoy gigs, however…

In order for a human with disabilities to be able to go to a nightclub for a night time event, they have all the challenges of their disability added to all the challenges of the average night out. Anyone who has tried to get a taxi or a night bus at 3-4 am knows how difficult that is. Now imagine it’s raining, and the taxi that has turned up is refusing to take you because you're in a wheelchair and the guy will have to get out of his car.

For a human who has an invisible disability, the situation can lead to being publicly shamed and berated when asking for a seat on the bus, tube or overground. I know, because it happened to me. Add in people wanting to know why I'm sitting down instead of dancing etc and then add in my recovery times, which doesn't get me anywhere near "normal". My normal is being in pain everyday, feeling fatigued every day and being a lot more familiar with the toilet than I'd like.

Add in medication timing, steps, party animals, getting access to toilets and anything else the Universe chucks in and I think you can see why a night out to a club can be a massive challenge for anyone with a disability.

Stick some extra health and safety… Its a big challenge!

This is the whole point of the event. Its to get people out of the shadows and into some daylight. I've found a venue with an amazing attitude that has recently been refurbished and has a smooth and well ramped floor. (We could probably use it as a race track, but maybe another time)

Life in the 21st Century as a human with a disability in Britain is insane. There’s support but the laws/ guidelines, cut backs etc etc etc can make it difficult to access. Humans with Disabilities in the UK are having a really bad time, and they need some sunshine, just like you do. Its just a tad more difficult.

Now think of all the above and imagine the challenges of getting a holiday…

I was a child carer, and then spent about 9 years working Operating Theatres as an ODP. I then left the NHS and studied Entertainment Technology at Portsmouth University under Dr Dave Allen (not the comedian but an awesome bundle of sunshine none the less) and came top of my class. I got into DJing while I was working in the NHS, but while I was doing my Degree I worked for the Ents Dept at UPSU and put up big tops, lugged chairs and tables, unloaded lorries full of drink, climbed wobbly ladders and nearly had a few nasty falls, as well as DJing for big acts like The Freestylers, Scratch Perverts, Blue, Shed 7 Space and many more. It lead into local crew work on gigs for Alice Copper and The Dream Boys to name two and festival work at the first Homelands, Fleadh, Madstock, Reading and Festival of the Sea (Pompey 2001) Since leaving Portsmouth I have been diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, but I’ve been using the time to read and study to improve my skill set and further my musical knowledge. I have studied with the likes of Richard Boal, Nick Ronin, Paul Rez, Danny Dematos, Stevie R and Leigh Devlin and it blew my mind.
