I bought this Iconic 1957 vehicle direct from the RAF in March 2016 in a very sad and sorry state. I have spent countless months getting her fully kitted, fully operational, roadworthy and up to a show standard inside and out. She now attends many public and charity events. Some of you may have even seen her at events in and around the Essex area. She always attracts a good crowd and has lots of positive compliments. She recently took part in the London to Brighton classic lorry run and was awarded 3rd place which was an absolute honour. So far all the work has been carried out by myself during weekends and any spare time that i might get and has been totally self funded. Sadly my funds have run out and the work that had planned to carry out over the winter months has been put on hold. The main job was to remove the head from the engine and fit new exhaust valves (which i have already bought) so as to convert her to run on unleaded fuel and improve the engine efficiency and fuel consumption which is currently around 8 - 10mpg. Without this work being carried out the engine internals are wearing drastically each time she attends an event or puts on a water pumping display. She is still capable of pumping up to 1000 gallons of water per minute which is far more than a modern fire appliance can pump. I would be extremely grateful for any funding or donation which will help me to raise the £500 needed to carry out this work. I need the head skimmed, hardened valve seats put in place, the new valves seated plus new gaskets etc. She currently has just 3170 miles on the clock from new which was 60 years ago, but modern fuel is doing her no favours whatsoever. This work would lengthen the engines service life considerably and more than likely see the vehicle last mechanically for another 60 years meaning she could proudly attend 100's of further events free of charge and bring pleasure to 1000's more. Please help this happen. Every £ counts.
