630-Mile Walk in 40 Days – Supporting Opportunities for Children in Alternative Provision

This Spring, I’ll be walking the full South West Coast Path, 630 miles from Minehead to Poole Harbour along the South–West Coastline to help fund Summer Camp places for children in Alternative Provision.

The route is widely known as one of the UK’s most demanding long-distance walks. It typically takes around 52 days to complete and involves more than 115,000 feet of ascent and descent, roughly equivalent to climbing Mount Everest 4 times.

I’m aiming to complete the walk in around 40 days.

Why I'm Doing This:

I work as a mentor supporting children in Alternative Provision. Many of the young people I work with have experienced disruption or exclusion from mainstream school. Often there are wider factors at play, such as difficult home circumstances, mental health challenges, gaps in learning or earlier experiences of trauma, which can leave young people feeling unsupported, with low-self worth and missing out on opportunities that help them grow.

It is clear from my experience, spending time outdoors and trying new things can make a real difference, especially for young people who need space away from the pressures of the classroom to rebuild confidence. For that reason, I’m raising money to help fund Summer Adventure Camp places with Educamps Adventures.

Educamps Adventures is an outdoor education facility that tailors specific outdoor learning opportunities with a lot of experience working with Alternative Provision, children and young people. They provide children and young people the chance to take part in outdoor adventures like climbing, surfing, mountain biking and kayaking, alongside other young people, building confidence and teamwork in a space where they feel included and supported.

Being outdoors, learning practical skills and taking on manageable challenges together, young people can develop resilience, self-belief and a real sense of achievement.

These young people receive no funding from Local authorities during the summer holidays, and as a result of the previously mentioned difficult home circumstances and mental health challenges this is a period of time that they can become very vulnerable. At a time when more fortunate young people are enjoying summer camps and outdoor adventure. Please make a difference.

Every donation goes directly towards making these opportunities possible.

Thank you for any support you’re able to give.
