My name is Topsey and I am 9-years-old!

Over the past 8 months I have been like Puss in Boots wandering the streets and now I find myself asking for your help….this is my story!

In June 2021 being a naughty Tortie, I decided to escape my cat carrier on my way to the cattery in Worrall, where I was due to stay whilst my mum went on holiday. I only wanted to run and hide and play for a short while but I got lost and couldn’t find my way back home.

I wandered around for months trying to find my way home with no luck, then on Tuesday 8th February I was sadly mauled by a nasty animal outside the stadium in Hillsborough, the vet said he could see the teeth marks on my neck where I was picked up and shaken.

I used all my strength and adrenalin and managed to escape and run into the stadium where I could see light and hear people cheering, I made my way onto the pitch to try to get help and luckily some of the nice footballers came to help me and I knew I was finally safe. After months of being alone, finally I was in the arms of a human and it was such a relief. I was then put into the safe arms of Sam, a vet who has a Season Ticket at Sheffield Wednesday, and he drove me with his dad to Spire Vets in Chesterfield.

They were brilliant with me. The vet diagnosed a fractured bone in my neck and some nerve damage but following further tests and strong painkillers they suspected further damage so yesterday, Valentine’s Day, I was taken to Wakefield to see a specialist.

It is now thought I have a broken bone on my spine which is stopping me from being able to walk properly. Apart from the broken bones and the pain I am in, I purr constantly as I am so happy to have been found and cared for. I am eating lots, making up for the scarce meals over the past 8 months and all I want now is to be better, have no more pain and spend my life enjoying my forever home.

As Mum didn’t expect to see me again I have no health insurance so although the vet believes I can live a full, healthy and happy life I first need a CT Scan, a MRI scan and an operation. Unfortunately there is a huge cost to making me better with an estimate of £9,000 for the scans and operation on top of the fees so far and for recouperation. Any funds received over the cost of veterinary fees will be donated to Pet Samaritans.

That’s where I need your help…please help me get better, any donation possible no matter how small will help, I have had a distressing 8 months and now I just want a long peaceful life at home with my family.
