I will be taking part in Total Warrior this year on 16th September and would love to use it as an opportunity to raise some funds for PFK in Cairo while I get bruised, battered, breathless and mucky.

It's just over 4 weeks away and I'm far from match fit, so the best incentive for me to get my ass in gear is to help Marte, Emma, Sherif and team and these poor horses.

The work they do in rehabilitating the animals that come through their gates is nothing short of miraculous and often heartbreaking. The before and after photo here is of Na3Na3 (Mint in Arabic) who was Marte's first rescue to show the transformations they can make.

Last month, Kareem, Marte's second beloved rescue, had to be put to sleep and the blow was very obvious. This on top of money being tighter than ever, constant battles with negative comments and the weight of the work they do day to day must have knocked her stuffing right out.

Not only treating horrifying saddle sores, infected bites, babesiosis, laminitis, malnourisment and euthanasing those too far gone, they also educate the local horse owners on good care of their animals and are battling against "old wives remedies" such as line firing and threading strings through the horse's skin. Word is spreading. Even basic veterinary supplies are often short and more funds are always needed.
