A Hearse, 1,000 Miles, and Full Tummys!

We’re Sam & Michelle from The Family Car Guy, a small independent car dealership in Totnes. Normally, we spend our days helping local families find the right car — but this September we’re swapping MPVs for… a hearse.

Yes, you read that right. A very old hearse.

Why? Because we’re taking part in the Motor Trader Mille, a madcap 1,000-mile rally across Europe with 18 other motor trade teams. The challenge: buy a car for under £1,000, drive it from the UK through Belgium and Germany, race it around the legendary Nürburgring, and somehow limp it all the way back to Bedford to auction it off for charity.

Our weapon of choice? A creaky old hearse that we’re determined to nurse through the journey. From ferry crossings to fast laps, we’ll be driving every mile ourselves — rain or shine, breakdowns or blowouts.

Who We’re Driving For

Closer to home in Devon, we’re raising money for the Totnes Food Bank (Stepping Stones Food & Wellbeing CIC).

This incredible local charity supports families and individuals in the TQ9 area who are struggling with the cost of living. They provide food parcels, toiletries, and essentials, along with community meals, wellbeing support, and a warm, welcoming café.

Right now, demand for the food bank is higher than ever — with hundreds of households relying on their help each month — while donations are dropping. Every pound raised will help keep shelves stocked and families supported.
