Over the next two years I'll be cycling with Fudge, my 12-year old English Bull Terrier, from Land's End to John O'Groats to help her raise money for various pet shelters and animal charities along the way (and to spend some quality time with the ageing lady!). Fudge will do the trip in a specially designed dog sidecar, attached with some clever engineering to a 6-speed pedelec touring bike.

The idea came about when I met a guy a year or so ago on a ferry back from Holland where we spent a weekend cycling. He ran barefoot from the one end of the mainland to the other, which planted the seed of what is possible if you put your mind to doing a trek like this. After a year of having Fudge winding down her exercise due to heart problems, I thought back on that possibility and decided to just get on with it, using reasonably timed trips over two years to cover the distance without getting her, or myself, done in in the process.

We're planning to raise at least £967, which is more of less the number of miles we need to devour to get to the other side. The trip is covered by an number of legs (mostly mine haha) with the first one, from Land's End to Barnstaple, starting on the 21st of July with the charity Many Tears Rescue as the first recipient of the funds raised and a most worthy cause to support. They are a a dog rescue charity based in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire in Wales and have dogs in foster homes across the country, see the good work they're doing at https://www.facebook.com/manytearsrescue.
