    Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are raising funds to help our dear friend Toyah ease the unexpected financial pressure of becoming a full time carer to her gorgeous 12 month old daughter Margot.

In June Margot, who was a healthy, happy baby, was suddenly struck down by a mystery illness and admitted to Great Ormond Street Hospital, where after a month of tests Toyah received the devastating news that Margot was diagnosed with the very rare Mitochondrial disease, 'Alpers'.

Alpers is a genetic disorder which causes a progressive loss of development, brain function and mobility. Resulting in constant epileptic seizures and liver failure. Most devastatingly there is no cure for this awful condition, and Toyah has been told that Margot is unlikely to see her 2nd birthday.

As a single parent, Toyah can unfortunately no longer work in her job as an optometrist as she has now become a full time carer to her gorgeous baby girl. This money will go towards easing Toyah's financial burden as a result of Margot's situation - using it to meet ongoing costs of living while she cannot work. We don't know how long this painful situation will continue. It is very scary.

Thank you for your support. It is greatly appreciated.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, your money will be sent directly to Toyah.

So please dig deep and donate now. Big thanks.

After a very emotional day yesterday, bidding farewell to baby Margot, we would like to thank everyone who donated on our page. We raised nearly £12,000 - which was above and beyond our expectations!! Toyah was such an amazing Mum and continues to be an inspiration to us all. We love 💕 her so much We have decided to close the page next Sunday, so if you would still like to donate, there is still time. The continued support from friends, family and even those that don’t know our dear friend is immensely appreciated xxx

It's been an emotionally exhausting journey but we reached the end of it in the early hours of Thursday morning. Margot wasn't able to recover from a chest infection as the disease progressed further. She was losing the ability to control her eyes and the seizures became more frequent and more resistant to treatment. She still managed to smile and bring us joy in the first couple of months of her illness, but later on I worried about her quality of life, so it was her time to go, and I take relief in her suffering not being prolonged.

As Pat's + Keith's very old German friends, we saw all their children grow up and shared small parts of their lives. This is by far the saddest one and we want to support Victoria +send best wishes.
