Story

This is Charlotte.

She has been a client for about 18 months now. She had a revision spinal fusion surgery in May 2022. Unfortunately, there were problems during surgery after an error caused a spinal cord injury and she was told that she would never walk again. She is just 37. Her legal team have told her that she is unlikely to receive any compensation.

She is already undertaking a course of specialist private rehabilitation, but she needs much, much more to help fund specialist equipment and rehabilitation.

I am truly thankful for all the wonderful things that I have been able to do since I was 37 - I’m sure you are too. Please help me to support Charlotte in moving forward in this new life.

I have pledged to complete:

The 100 mile London Cycle Ride

The Full distance Aquabike ( 3.8km swim, 180km bike ) in Podersford, Austria

The 5km Lake Annecy swim in France, and

The 7K swim across Lake Geneva.

Will you please help me to help her?

Please read Charlotte’s own words below…

On 31st May 2022 during lumbar fusion surgery, a surgical error led to a spinal cord injury and cerebrospinal fluid leak. I woke to no function or sensation below my waist. Advised flippantly by a surgeon I’d never previously met that I’d never walk again, I was discharged with no referrals, no assistance and no appropriate aids. My life had been changed forever and I felt totally and utterly alone. Advised that the nearest NHS neurorehabilitation was in Sheffield and was a minimum 10 month wait, my only option for recovery was private neurorehabilitation. Told that those who undertook my surgery have no responsibility to source appropriate rehabilitation and with no appropriate rehabilitation services in Lincolnshire, I began to attend Flex Health in Hull. With no funding or appropriate NHS neuro rehabilitation, it is likely I will now have to end my rehabilitation as it is just not financially sustainable. The potential impact of this on my recovery will be devastating.
