Story
I am an experienced and BA qualified Person Centred Counsellor, Play and Clay Therapist and PGCE qualified Primary School Teacher. I am aware of the growing number of children and young people experiencing mental health issues, and the lack of accessible and high quality support. CAMHs are under pressure with rapidly increasing referrals - waiting lists are growing, with some 'non urgent referrals' declined. This leaves children and families in an unsupported 'no man's land' - unless they can afford a private therapist (this is not an option for most families), the children and young people are left, with the prospect of their emotional distress reaching a crisis situation. I believe that early intervention is the key to supporting children and young people and that the provision is high quality and tailored to the individual's needs. If we can address the issues at an earlier stage, we can often prevent a downward spiral that leads to crisis. There is also little provision for families. When a family member is experiencing an emotional wellbeing issue, it not only affects that individual, but the family unit. I am also offering counselling and family mediation in order to provide a holistic approach.
