Story
Transforming Lives is a community run foodbank for Martock and the surrounding area run through a partnership between Martock Christian Fellowship and Martock community members and organisations. It exists to provide emergency support for the community in any way we can - for more information see our website here : https://www.martockchristianfellowship.org/transforminglives
In the early hours of Tuesday 5th September the food bank was broken into and a considerable amount of food and essentials stolen. After trying to get through the secure door the thieves smashed in a window and entered. They were on foot and they made 3 separate visits through the night. There appears to be at least 2 different people involved, and on the last visit stole a trolley from the foodbank to take a greater quantity away with them.
The Team and volunteers are devastated that someone felt the need to do such a thing - especially in that if they were in need all they had to do was ask and it would have been given. They took mostly higher value items including everything we had put aside for our special christmas food parcels.
The quantity of food and other essentials taken ahs staggered us all and the cost to replace it goes beyond our reserves following a huge increase in need for foodbank support in the community. We are also having to install extra security which is another considerable outlay from an already overstretched budget.
Anything that anyone is able to donate would be so gratefully received and will go towards the costs of the break in and stolen items, and purchasing essential food and products for our foodbank provision.
