    Story

In 2006, aged 23 Travel Teacher Founder and Director Matt Ray embarked on a gap year experience which would change his live forever.

On his travels, Matt visited The South Pacific Island of Fiji. He spent time engaging with village communities and had the privilege of meeting local people, noticeably Vani Ruve, now friend of 10 years and part of the Travel Teacher Team. Vani would share stories of the challenges that her and family encountered on a day to day basis, from living circumstances to accessing quality education, Matt was inspired to help.

Matt spent the following 10 years teaching in the UK whilst thinking about how he could provide support in addressing some of the issues that Vani and her community were facing.

Matt developed an organisation which combined his passion for travel with his profession. The name 'Travel Teacher' was the ideal fit which provided a platform to develop a model that worked alongside global communities with a long term sustainable vision to create impact through engagement.

Our impact would stem from knowledge delivered through teaching and community development. Using education as a key driver, Matt believes that through project participation and community development initiatives, Travel Teachers philosophy demonstrates a passion, commitment and responsibility in creating impact with the global communities that we work with in The South Pacific.

Through our crowdfunding project we aim to ensure that children in our schools can access basic human physiological needs such as food and water - many come to school without this. By providing these basic needs, students will be more focused on self fulfilment and achieving their full potential in school.

We are looking to build a canteen in our school in Fiji, Ratu Filise Memorial with the aim of addressing these basic needs and giving students the best possible chance of success.

We would welcome your support in raising funds for this project.
