I've raised £100 to plant fruit trees and bushes in Warrington's gardens this winter.

Story

We're all hearing lots in the news about carbon-absorbing tree-planting schemes. But this one's a little different.

The premise is simple. This winter, as many of our town’s residents (that's you!) as possible plant a fruit or nut tree of their choice. They then match the cost of that tree with a donation to this central pot, which will be used to distribute a suitable fruit tree to any Warringtonian who emails in and asks for one — up to one tree per household.

The goal is to fill Warrington's gardens with fruit trees — without leaving out those who lack the time, spare cash or know-how to plant a tree themselves.

I'll make sure all the donated trees are suitable for each household, arrange for their delivery and make sure every penny is spent on the campaign — I've put in £50 to start off the pot!

For the sake of a few quid, we can plant trees that will give fruit to Warrington's people for decades. At the very least, our grandchildren will have something to remember us by!
