Story
8.4 million people live in households at risk of food poverty in the UK. At the same time, UK supermarkets throw away 250,000 tonnes of edible food every year. Despite some effort to tackle these issues, the contradictory problems of food waste and food poverty persist.
That's why we've decided, as part of National Walking Month, to walk the entire Norfolk Coastal Trail from Hunstanton to Cromer (50 miles) on the 15th-18th May to raise money for Norwich FoodHub. Since starting up in 2015, Norwich FoodHub has collected tonnes of food from local supermarkets that would have otherwise been thrown away. They then redistribute this food to various organisations working with people at risk of food poverty, including: Leeway Women's Refuge, St Martins Housing Trust and Norwich food banks.
The organisation relies on volunteers and donations to keep it going. We're fundraising to help contribute to their running costs as they continue to expand and work towards zero food waste and tackling food poverty! Find out more about their work here: https://www.facebook.com/NorwichFoodHub/
Any donation will be much appreciated and we'll keep you updated with the walk as we go on social media!
Much love,
Emma, Rosie and Georgie <3
