Story

Two years later, it's finally happening!

We have climbed a few peaks together in the past. In 2020 we decided to trek to the Everest Base Camp for a bigger cause. But covid happened, and we had to postpone our trip. Fast-forward to now, we will be starting our trek on April 8! Thank you to those who donated to our 2020 fundraiser. Thanks to your generosity we have already collected £3,800!

All funds will be divided among two humanitarian programs:

1. Provide supplies to women, children and elders in desperate need in Ukraine.

Our friend Lenka Chubuklieva is in direct contact with children's hospitals, orphanages, elders and other individuals in Kyiv. Even though there are many organisations raising funds, there are still many people that have not received any help and are on the brink of crisis. Lenka has created a fundraiser and all funds are used to purchase supplies and deliver them to Kyiv and Kharkiv. More info here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/humanitarianhelpinukraine

2. Build a preschool in Senegal.

Bettina visited a preschool in a village called Diouloulou in Southern Senegal with Autour de l'enfant charity and she saw things that broke her heart. 130 kids from 3 to 6 years old were all cramped together in a tiny building of 60 square meters. Some kids have to sit outside to be able to work. Early childhood education is highly important and has long-term benefits. Children who attended preschool in Africa are less likely to drop out of school and have higher levels of literacy and numeracy when reaching adolescence.

Building a new school using sustainable materials, with 6 classrooms, a canteen and all the equipment would cost £20,000. Bettina will go back to Senegal in May with Autour de l'enfant to get the project started. More info here: www.autourdelenfant.org

So here we are, planning a 12-day trek in the Himalayas at an altitude of 5,364 meters with 50% less oxygen. As it's not enough of a challenge for Shannon, she decided to fast during the trek and challenge her mind as much as her body. Follow our adventures and support her through each day she spends fasting.

Thank you in advance for helping us to make a difference for them!
