Story

The cause

The coronavirus pandemic is the biggest emergency that I have ever known. We are all affected in some way. The state of lockdown currently in existence in the UK and elsewhere was completely unprecedented and there was little time to prepare, leaving many people vulnerable to isolation and being unable to access vital supplies and services. The crisis has brought out both the worst and the best of people. In among the panic buying and ignoring the new rules there are people trying to help and bring their community together (not literally!) Helping Scunthorpe Families is a local group providing emergency parcels of food and essentials to those in need as well as online support and company and signposting to further help. The group is entirely self funded and so we have decided that this is where the proceeds of our Easter holiday, socially distanced fundraiser will go.

The event

We usually have a short family break away during the Easter holiday. Obviously that will not happen this year so we are going to get some exercise by "climbing Ben Nevis" at home. Inspired by something we saw on Facebook I have calculated that we need to walk up our stairs 538 times to achieve a height of 1, 345m which is the height of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles. So, between us we will do this over the Easter holiday and keep you updated with our progress. Please consider sponsoring us. It doesn't need to be a lot. Previous fundraising has shown that every little really helps!
