It was after giving birth to my beautiful baby boy and after reading this quote that I decided that it was time to conquer my fear of water and swimming... Some people would probably take a swimming lesson or two, but not me, I had to take it to the next level and so I signed up for this year's SOUTH COAST TRIATHLON in Seaford on the 28th July 2018 - for the Olympic distance ( 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run) - YEAH, I've gone mad!!!!

I can cycle and I can run, but up until January this year I could not do a single front crawl without feeling like I was going to drown. Putting my head under water was terrifying and it took a LOT of practice to overcome my fear. I can now swim 60 lengths (1500m) in the swimming pool in a respectable time so I am happy - the only problem is that I am gonna have to do the swim in the sea!!!! I feel like I am back to "square one" and that I am having to conquer yet another massive challenge. The sea is cold, it is wild and it is unpredictable. But I decided to do it, and when I start something - I WILL BLOODY FINISH IT TOO!!!!

I feel so incredibly blessed and grateful that I have the physical ability to train for my triathlon because so many people will NEVER be able to do that...

One of those people is my new 6 year old friend named JAKEY. This is HIS story:

My name is Jakey and I am 6 years old. When I was a tiny baby I had a very serious accident and the hospital couldn't fix me. My Mummy wasn't able to look after me, so now I live with my forever Mummy and Daddy who love me very much. I have holes in m brain, and because of this I now have Cerebral Palsy to the highest level to all of my limbs (quadriplegic) my wheelchair is my legs as I am unable to move or sit up independently and my head can be a bit floppy, I also have quadreplegic Dystonia which means my limbs are very stiff and hurt lots, I suffer with Seizures, have no sight in my right eye and impaired sight in my left, I am unable to swallow so I`m fed by a tube into my tummy, my breathing wasn't great and I was given a Tracheostomy 2 1/2 years ago (wow that is a great little tube) I also have severe scoliosis and very very soon Mummy and Daddy will be taking me to the hospital to have magic rods inserted into my back (I must admit I`m a bit scared) but afterwards I should be straighter and not having so much pain, my hips are also dislocated so I will have to have them fixed soon too. Now comes the bit when I ask for some help. Due to all of the above I need to have a bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor I`m getting bigger and heavier to carry upstairs and Daddy isn't getting any younger (whoops don't tell him I said that) seriously once I have my operation I wont be allowed to be lifted or carried I will have to be hoisted all the time ( Don't really like hoists😢). I will be going into a rehabilitation home/Hospice post operation because I can't go home (I`m sad 😥). Jacob's smile and zest for life despite his disabilities, inability to move and a fair share of pain he must be in have given me an incredible boost and encouragement to do my best not only in my triathlon challenge but also in raising as much money for him as possible to do all the alternation to his bedroom and his bathroom and to make his life the best it can be!
