Story

We are getting married in February 2019 in South Africa, and could not be more excited to share this special day with our closest friends and family. We consider ourselves to be very fortunate people. We're both working, have a fantastic home in London, and are surrounded by incredible family and friends. On our special day nothing would make us happier than the gift of your company.

However, if you wish to give us a wedding present, we have chosen three charities doing amazing work for causes very close to our hearts. Please see below for details on each of them, and note with your donation which you would like to support.

1. ACTION FOR CHILDREN - Independent Visitors programme

This scheme matches young people in foster care in the UK with a volunteer mentor. They are not connected through the social care system and consequently play a unique role which is purely that of friendship and mentorship. Tristan has been an IV for over six years. 2. GIFT OF THE GIVERS FOUNDATION

The Western Cape has been in drought for over three years. Four million people face the harsh reality of standing in water queues at 200 distribution points throughout the province. Fortunately, appropriate measures can manage the crisis significantly if not completely.

Gift of the Givers, a disaster response NGO in Africa, is one of the most hands-on charities, working on the ground in the Western Cape to deal with this crisis. Collection of bottled water has commenced at more than 70 collection points throughout South Africa. They have also planned the drilling of boreholes and sourcing pure, tested, clean drinking water from various springs and its delivery by water tanker.

Gift of the Givers assist in various disasters throughout South Africa, including shack fires to runaway veld fires, hurricanes, floods, xenophobic attacks, cholera epidemics caused by infected water supplies. Find out more about Gift of the Givers

3. HELPING RHINOS

South Africa is home to about 80% of the world’s 29,000 rhinos. Rhino poaching has increased beyond belief in recent years. In South Africa, the number of rhinos killed by poachers has increased from 13 in 2007 to 1,215 in 2014 - that is over 4% of the world's population in one year.

Helping Rhinos aims to deliver tangible results in anti-poaching and habitat preservation whilst developing strong local community relations. The Black Mambas, one of their key projects, is the first female anti-poaching unit in South Africa. They are a team of young women from previously disadvantaged communities on the border of the Kruger National Park. Their objective is not only the protection of rhinos but also being a voice in their community through their conservation work. Find out more about Helping Rhinos
