Story

Introduction (Backstory)

When we traveled to Zanzibar we stayed in a fantastic accomdation located in Kidoti near Nungwi. We decided to travel to the village as we heard there was a orphange located in rural Kidoti to distribute meat for Eid Al Adha. When we saw the village we noticed kids follow us around and be happy to see us! Most of the kids did not have shoes and many of them had never seen meat before (as we were distributing for Eid).

Thats when we met Mama Nyiso.

Mama Nyiso owns a orphanage in Kidoti (she tries to grow vegetation!) and she kindly invited us to the house where we saw the housing conditions the children and herself lives in.

The orphange

The orphange is not in a good condition for the 18 Children and Mama Nyiso to live in.

Roof Problems

The roof of the orphanage that has no insulation and lets rain in and gets extremely cold.

Below you can see the beds all the kids sleep on (Which is not made out of a conventional mattress)

This below is the kitchen for the orphanage.

The orphanage does consist of two empty rooms in the back but have no beds in them as they could not afford to make them

This is the orphanage toilet:

Mama Nyiso also makes mats and handbags

What we are trying to do?

There are currently 18 kids in this orphanage living in very distressing conditions. We plan to use the funds to :

• Re-vitalize the roof by closing it off and making the house more insulated

• Providing multiple mattresses so the children can comfortably sleep

• Fix the damages in the wall and provide the right equipment for their kitchen and toilet

• Add some colouring and paintings on the wall so the kids can learn to count/read

• Provide food for the kids (Bags of rice, flour etc)

• Raise enough money to fund their school programs (Average of £15 a month per child)

• Give enough of a emergency fund in case any of the kids need medical treatment

We plan to use every single penny to further development when we have reached the above goals, whether that is expanding the orphanage with constant electricity or expanding the orphanage to give the kids more space to live in.

Mama Nyiso as a solo guardian takes care of these kids well-being and also makes mats and handbags as you can see in her picture above.

The orphange we named it "Tumaini Zuri House" as it means "The Beautiful Hope House" as we believe with your contribution, we can provide hope to these beautiful people :)

We will update the progress of every development of the orphanage and kids on this page. We are from the UK but we have close connections to the people still in Zanzibar (From our great accomdation!) that will help us use the funds effeciently!
