Story
What's the Problem?
According to UNICEF the average income in Kenya is £2.44 a day, Consequently the majority of the country lives in extreme poverty. A country in this state of survival mode leads to Innocent children left vulnerable unable to access education, food, and clean water, many without the loving protection and guidance of parents. Consequently many children suffer from disease and a life without hope.
Education is integrally linked to human, community and national development. No country has ever achieved continuous and rapid economic growth without having at least 40% of its adults able to read and write. Without education there can be no change and no source of hope.
What are we doing?
We have rescued, fed and taught over 2000 vulnerable children so far! "Tumaini" means "Hope" in Swahili and our mission is to rescue many more children and give them meaning, purpose, and direction. We are determined to rapidly grow our efforts having set up a second project earlier this year helping refugee children from the Congo and Somalia.
Our vision is to provide sanctuary and education for the many children in the Maasai whose innocent daughters have suffered from genital mutilation often being married off to older men at tender young ages. To succeed in rescuing these children we must educate a generation and reach out into the community.
We know that poverty paralyses progression and education is the cure, for every additional year of secondary school a child has their future earnings increase by 15 -25%.
We are looking to raise £3000 from this Just Giving page and £8000 in total from all projects.
Therefore the work we do literally breaks the poverty cycle in communities.
With this money we will be able to buy the land to build a new school on.
100% of this money goes towards the charity and we are in partnership with doterra who will double all donations.
