    Story

During the last 8 years, Turn the Tide has supported vulnerable children living in child headed families. Orphaned and alone, we have been able to provide them with food, clothing, shelter, education and medicine, when it is required, giving them a hope for the future.

In recent years, we have linked widows with our families who care, nurture and support them with their daily lives and education.

Many challenges are presented to our families especially as they live in such a remote area and are vulnerable to environmental challenges such as: flooding, droughts and crop failure.

During our recent visit, we have been greatly encouraged by the academic success of many of our young people – they have made us proud. Seven of our children have defied odds and have been selected into secondary school – this is a huge achievement in such a poor part of the country. In addition to this, we are so very proud of Maria, one of the first orphans supported by Turn the Tide, who has been offered a place at nursing college where she will fulfil her dream to train to be a nurse.

With this great news, comes greater financial challenge for us but we believe that with your help we can make a difference to their lives and enable them to achieve their dreams.

In addition to the educational needs, our attention has been drawn to two other important needs. Firstly, the desperately poor condition of the family homes and the urgent need to repair roofs for our families. Secondly, there is a need for a motorised scooter to enable our team to effectively carry out the work here and to respond to urgent medical needs when they arise.

We believe that every penny counts and with your support we can provide the following:

Secondary School Fees for 7 students X £150 per term (3 terms a year)

School Bags for 35 Primary & Secondary school children X £10 each

Nursing college fees/ costs for Maria £2350 for the first year (costs reduced in 2nd year)

    New roofs for 9 homes X £35 a roof

18 Straw Mats for families X £1.50 each (£27.00 in total)

    Motorised scooter £300

We appreciate and value any donation that you can make – every penny really does count. The small donation of many soon adds up ,meaning that together we can achieve something great – we can Turn the Tide in these people’s lives, changing the direction and giving them a hope for the future. Thank you for being part of their story and making a difference.
