Story
We are raising £3,000 to restore our historic Lister narrow gauge Steam Tram and return another unique locomotive to steam.
Following the successful restoration of the world’s only steam-powered monorail locomotive, the Monoloco, which now steams publicly every month, we are now working to save another extraordinary piece of industrial railway history.
Originally built by R.A. Lister in 1940 as a petrol locomotive, works number 14005 was later converted into a remarkable vertical-boilered steam tram using a Merryweather fire pump boiler and Greens stationary engine components. It is a truly unusual locomotive with a fascinating story.
Today, the Steam Tram is part of our collection at the Tanat Valley Light Railway at Nant Mawr Quarry near Oswestry, where our volunteers preserve and operate rare industrial railway equipment.
We are a registered charity run entirely by volunteers and dedicated to preserving the railway and industrial heritage of this historic border region.
Your donations will help fund:
* Boiler restoration and certification
* Mechanical repairs
* Steam fittings and pipework
* Engineering and fabrication work
* Painting and finishing
* Long-term preservation
Once restored, the Steam Tram will become part of our operational collection of rare steam locomotives, helping us provide educational opportunities, volunteer training, heritage preservation and tourism for North Shropshire and the Welsh border area.
Every donation, no matter the size, helps bring this unique locomotive back to life.
Thank you for supporting industrial railway heritage.
