Story

We, Natalie and Valerie, are raising £10,000 to support TwinnyDip's bid at the CNN-voted toughest one-day race Otillo SwimRun World Championship and help raise scholarship for Li Po Chun United World College (LPCUWC). The first £5,000 will be split 50/50 to fund (1) our SwimRun endeavour and (2) the Davis UWC Scholars program (for the benefit of LPCUWC), and anything beyond that will be 100% dedicated to the scholarship program.

Please help us reach our target by donating through this website, or if you prefer a milestone-based approach (e.g. £10 per completed distance/ islands/ race segment - there are 52 of them!) please contact us directly at info.twinnydip@gmail.com.

About TwinnyDip and the World Championship

TwinnyDip is a SwimRun team made up of Twins Natalie and Valerie Wong. We participated in ÖTILLÖ Utö in May 2017, which involved 20 alternating segments of running (total 37km) and swimming (5km). It was our first SwimRun race and to our surprise, we qualified for the upcoming ÖTILLÖ World Championship in September 2017. We will be having a go at this legendary 75km SwimRun course, i.e. island-hopping through the Stockholm Archipelagos of 26 islands, for a total of 65km running and 10km swimming. To give a bit of context, this is equivalent to just over 1.5 times full marathon and 200 lengths in a 50m Olympic-size swimming pool!

We have spent over £6,000 to date (the registration fees alone was ca. £1,500; transport, equipments, training and other preparation events). To be clear, up to £2,500 of proceeds will go to cost coverage, the rest will go to the scholarship program.

About SwimRun

SwimRun is an endurance, multi-stage sport where by participants, typically in teams of pair, together alternate between running and swimming along a set course of cross-country runs and open water swims without stopping in between. There is absolutely no time to change and faff around so we basically run in our wetsuits and swim in our shoes. It is a relatively new sports in the UK so we find that people are always staring at us and amused by our costumes (spot us in our wetsuits running across East London early morning at weekends).

About LPCUWC and the Davis UWC Scholars program

LPCUWC is one of the 17 United World Colleges (and schools) which originated in the late 1950s in the ideas of the German educationalist, Kurt Hahn with a view to bring young people from different countries and cultures together to learn from one another. Both of us attended LPCUWC and benefited enormously learning from and sharing with a diverse international community. We want the next generation to enjoy the same cross-cultural experience to foster international understanding through the Davis UWC Scholars program, which will match every penny of your donation, i.e. doubling what you will give!

To learn more about the school and the scholarship program see http://www.lpcuwc.edu.hk and http://www.davisuwcscholars.org.
