Story
Inspired by the Tope Project in London, we wanted to set up an event for Christmas Day to give some care leavers who would otherwise be alone the opportunity to spend the day with people who care. Children get taken in to care, removed from their families for various reasons, the most obvious being their immediate safety. However in the process it seems long term happiness and well being can get lost in the system of child protection and too many young people end up alone, with no family, limited or lack of support networks and feeling lonely. Working in the social care sector we met some of these people over the years and saw the impact on their mental health and emotional well-being, that feeling that no one cares or you're not worth it. We want to take some positive action about this. Christmas should be a warm, loving day for everyone and we want to ensure that the option is there for care leavers to spend it with others making memories. Our goal is to be able to provide a beautiful meal for and entertain as many care leavers as possible and help create some positive memories. And we'd really appreciate your help, kindness and generosity. No donation is too small and please leave a small message for our young people - "Kindness is free, Sprinkle that stuff everywhere". <3
