Story
Super Typhoon Rai (locally called Typhoon Odette)
The super typhoon made landfall at the Philippines on Thursday 16th December 2021, with gusts of up to 168 miles per hour, before moving west across the country. Typhoon Odette dumped heavy rain over large areas, and parts of the central and southern Philippines sustained substantial damage. The island of Cebu was right in the typhoon’s path as was Mactan, the island where STI Philippines is located.
STI reacted to the typhoon threat by securing the facility and staff, closing operations by the afternoon of Wednesday 16th December.
Although most of our staff are safe, some are still unaccounted for due to the poor communications within the area. We are aware people’s homes have been devastated and they are still waiting for power and water to come back on. When we have further updates, we will endeavour to keep you informed.
We want to launch a fundraising effort to support the STI staff and their families, together with the local community. Please can we ask for your support, and can we take this opportunity to thank you in advance.
