Story

Wes and I coach the Cradley DC Under 12 Girls football team, and this fundraiser is for Regan — a young boy whose story is a powerful part of our football family and wider community — and for the team his sister proudly plays in.

Regan lived courageously with mitochondrial disease (mito), a rare, progressive genetic condition that affects how the body produces energy. Mito also affects Regan’s brother Kai and sister Laci, highlighting just how challenging and far-reaching this condition can be for families. Although Regan sadly passed away in February 2022, his mission continues — leaving a lasting legacy of awareness, hope, and determination for others affected by this little-known illness.

Regan was from Cradley Heath and lived with his family in the West Midlands. His sister Laci is now in her second season with our team, knowing her brother is watching on with the biggest smile every time she steps onto the pitch.

The funds we raise will support Regan’s Mito Mission - helping to raise awareness, support families, and contribute towards research that could one day lead to treatments or a cure — as well as supporting the Cradley DC U12 Girls football team with essential equipment and activities.

On 18th–19th April, Wes and I will be taking on a personal challenge by climbing Snowdon via the Llanberis Path blindfolded (or with severely impaired vision), weather and safety permitting. We’ll be relying entirely on guides to help us reach the summit.

This is very much a community effort. Some of the girls, parents, and supporters from Cradley DC U12 Girls will be joining us on the mountain — embodying the teamwork and resilience that football teaches us.

Our target is £1,500, and every donation — no matter the size — will make a genuine difference to a cause that matters deeply to our team and Regan’s family.
