My name is Ruaridh, and competing with my pipe band is my passion. 

This passion has taken me from an enthusiastic spectator and listener of pipe band music, religiously watching the BBC coverage of World Pipe Band Championships every year, to being a dedicated tenor drummer attending twice weekly practices throughout the winter and summer months. The past year has led me to being a member of the 2017 Grade 3B European Pipe Band Drumcore Champions and 2017 Grade 3B World Pipe Band Championship 2nd Place winners.

I have recently joined a new start-up band, the brainchild of two very passionate people; our Pipe Major John Bowes and Lead Drummer John Cassidy who have brought together a collection of talented and enthusiastic musicians.

However, with being a new band comes the cost of new equipment, drums and uniforms; which equals pricey stuff!! We’re already doing all we can to raise funds in order to support ourselves but I would like to go a little extra mile to offer my support.

What I aim to do is combine a passion of mine, plus a personal goal, by cycling the NCN 75 - a cycle route which follows the Glasgow-Edinburgh rail network and the banks of the River Clyde - from Bathgate to Glasgow Green; a 36 mile distance on Sunday 11th March 2018.

I am therefore hoping, by completing this challenge, I will gain sponsorship which will be put towards the cost of the aforementioned necessities for our band to allow us to compete in the 2018 competition season.
