Story
Along with UEA's Kayak, Sub Aqua and Swimming clubs, some of our members are taking part in a challenge that will see them individually cycle 700km in 7 days, from June 29th to July 5th. Whilst this will be incredibly difficult, we have faith that our UEA athletes can push through!
With the current global movement in support of Black lives and fighting racial injustice, we at UEABC wanted to do something to raise funds to support organisations doing work to fight these inequalities in the local area, which is how we came across The Bridge Plus+.
Along with our rowers cycling the full 700km individually, some of our members and members of the clubs joining us will be cycling in teams as they are key workers!
The Bridge Plus+ is a Norwich-based Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) organisation promoting community cohesion and race equality through innovative community engagement activities and service delivery.
The Bridge Plus+ is a voluntary sector organisation based in Norwich. We are a small team of 4 staff and 3 regular volunteers. We promote and advocate for racial equality by supporting Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities through the provision of information, advice and advocacy. We are currently working from home but are busier than ever given the disproportionate impact of coronavirus on our service users. In normal times we hold monthly community lunches which are not only enjoyable social events but also provide wider community engagement opportunities for participants from the community, voluntary and statutory sectors. - Béatrice Humarau, Executive Coordinator of The Bridge Plus+
Along with their monthly community lunches, they also offer support to help people seeking employment and provide practical specialist support to BAME victims of domestic violence. You can find out more about The Bridge Plus+ and the work they do on their website.
