Story

Mercy Scouts of Uganda is a not-for-profit, Scout based, relief and development organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. They have many active projects, all of which are about improving the lives of children, families and communities. They aim to change lives, empower youths/scouts and build communities through their activities.

Mercy Scout’s main focus is the less privileged people of Uganda who are unable to gain access to the basic necessities of life (i.e. food, safe water, shelter, proper clothing, healthcare, education). These people who constantly face injustice are forced to cope with life at its harshest. One of their projects - EAGLES - aims at addressing the challenges faced by young girls and women without access to appropriate period products. Mercy Scouts helps those in need by distributing essential hygiene products and through teaching and providing equipment they help develop long term sustainable solutions where the young women can help themselves.

As a group of adult female scout leaders in the UK, we've been lucky enough to explore the world and have many experiences while never worrying about what to do the next time our period comes around. We want to help lift these Ugandan women out of period poverty.

In January 2027, in conjunction with Mercy Scouts, we will embark on a journey around Uganda to distribute sustainable and reusable period pads, pants, and menstrual cups. But our commitment goes beyond just providing products; we believe in equipping these young women with skills for life. Through workshops, we plan to teach them practical first aid skills and how to make their own period products, ensuring that this project is not only impactful but also sustainable for generations to come.

Your support is crucial in making this project a reality. By donating through JustGiving, you can be part of this transformative journey. It’s simple, fast, and secure—your details are safe with JustGiving as they prioritize your privacy. All money raised through JustGiving will be put towards products and equipment for donation (we're paying our own way for the trip). We hope to reach around 300 Ugandan women in person, and Mercy Scouts will further distribute any additional items or funds if we manage to raise more! Where possible we will be buying products in Uganda (first aid supplies, vaseline etc), but we will also be taking less available products with us, including menstrual cups and pants.

Together, let’s create a future where no girl has to miss school because of her period. Join us in making a difference today!
