Story
We are hosting a Ball to help raise some much needed funds for a charity very close to our hearts. Please allow me to provide a little background:-
In 2009 Dr Paul Wright approached QEGS to see if we would like to be part of a unique project. The project was a fledgling school for children aged between 4-11 years old in Kampala, Uganda. Over 160 children there were not able to access education, because they were either orphaned by HIV, AIDS or were just unable to afford even the very low school fees charged by local state-funded schools.
Since QEGS became involved in 2010 we have raised tens of thousands of pounds through a myriad of events, all undertaken by our own Sixth Form students, with the support of their families and friends. Over 90 Sixth Form students from QEGS have visited the school since 2010, gaining so much from their experience. Our relationship has allowed us to build a school that is now fit for purpose. We have also funded the build of an assembly hall, further classrooms, sanitation facilities, dormitories for the children, 7 houses for the school teachers to live in and a bore well to provide fresh water. However, there is still much to do.
