Story

Polocrosse is a fantastic and accessible horse-sport enjoyed by all ages and abilities. In April 2019, the U.K team will be competing against the 7 other top playing nations in the world! As an amateur sports team, we are extremely grateful for any contribution to help turn our dreams into reality, allowing us to bring the World Cup home. Below you can find the player profiles for the ladies and gentleman representing our country at the Adina Polocrosse World Cup, held in Warwick (QLD).

Jason Webb

Polocrosse has been a way of life for me. I grew up on my family’s sheep and cattle property at the foot of the Snowy Mountains in Australia, and could be described as being “born in the saddle”. Amongst other activities, my siblings and I grew up playing Polocrosse, and it was this sport that led me to meet my English wife at the bar at the 1998 Australian Polocrosse Nationals, which changed the course of my life! I moved permanently to England in 2003 and established my horse training business in Goudhurst, Kent. Nowadays, my days are filled with working with young and troubled horses, and teaching riders; from top professionals to recreational riders, how to develop a more successful partnership with their horse. I have played international Polocrosse for the past fifteen years, and this World Cup could be my last shot before I make way for the young guns, and I want to give it everything I have got.

Joel Sics

I was introduced to the amazing sport of Polocrosse through Rockwood Harriers Pony Club and I have been playing for 20 years. I work for David Brown as an Engineering Manager, and spend every other hour out in the fields with the horses and dog! My current playing horse is a retrained racehorse named Poca. She is 8 years old and 2019 will be her first full season of Polocrosse. Really looking forward to entering the World Cup with a great team around me.

Representing my country in the a World Cup is something that I have dreamed about since I first picked up a racket at a North Warwickshire Pony Club rally when I was a youngster. I now have the privilege to represent the United Kingdom at the Adina Polocrosse World Cup 2019, with the dream to bring the cup home! As an amateur sport, any support would be amazing and will help us to leave a legacy to inspire more young players to follow and achieve their dreams.

Jonny Keen

I was first introduced to Polocrosse at Pony Club camp, age of 10 by Ursula and Laura Scott. They are both still heavily involved with the United Kingdom Polocrosse Association, and Cotswold Polocrosse Club of which I am the chairman. I must contribute a lot of my success in the sport to them! I am honoured to represent the United Kingdom at the Adina Polocrosse World Cup in Warwick. We have a fantastic team and I look forward to competing to the best of my ability alongside them in front of the loyal U.K supporters.

Kerry Bean

I live in Hampshire, and work with elderly people who unfortunately have dementia. I started playing Polocrosse when I was 15 after going for a trial at a local riding centre; Crofton Manor. I was completely hooked from that day onward, and my trusty Welsh section D seemed to quite like it too! This will be my 27th year playing Polocrosse, it is not just the game I love but also the camaraderie. I have been extremely fortunate to represent The United Kingdom on a number of occasions, however the 2019 Adina World Cup will be the highlight of my career.

Polocrosse had me hooked from my first session back in 2008 with Rockwood Harriers Pony Club. I have always loved playing sport, and as a horse rider it was the perfect combination for me. It is the most thrilling game to play, and exciting to watch for all spectators. My two main horses; Xena and Ghost are rather hot-headed and I owe my quick progression through the sport to them! I currently live in Holmfirth and work for West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service as a Youth Intervention Trainer. I have also been fortunate to represent the U.K at various levels throughout my career, however being selected to play at the World Cup really was a dream come true. I am so excited to be playing alongside a fantastic team, coach, fitness and management crew. As we are an amateur sports team, any contribution would be so greatly appreciated. We didn't bring the World Cup home from Russia, but hopefully we can from Australia!

Charlotte Pykett

Born and raised in Worcestershire, I discovered my love of Polocrosse through the Croome & West Warwickshire Pony Club, so to them I owe everything that I have achieved up until this point. I am self-employed and run an online business named 'Havana' selling leather products imported from Africa.I also dedicate a lot of time to schooling and producing ponies for myself to play, and also sell. My main horse Bolt is one that I have totally produced myself from start to finish - something I find extremely rewarding! This World Cup will be my third representing the U.K, and I am incredibly excited to get out there and play. A huge amount of time behind the scenes is dedicated to preparing for these events; from travelling around the country for team training, to fitness and hitting the gym. We are a completely self-funded amateur sport which often has its challenges. We hope to make you all proud in April and feel this is the best opportunity to date to be able to bring the World Cup home to U.K soil!

I was lucky enough to stumble across Polocrosse through my local pony club at the age of 9 yrs. Back then a game would consist of cantering around slightly aimlessly! It would often culminate in me being bucked off when my naughty ‘character-building’ pony had decided it was dinner time back at camp. I wasn’t deterred and through my early Polocrosse years I benefitted hugely from loaning some of the wonderful ‘school-master’ ponies within the polocrosse community, who brought my game on and got me onto the UK junior squads initially, leading onto many more squads since. Following the school masters, I have thoroughly enjoyed bringing on my own horses, buying ex-racehorses a number of times now to retrain. It is very rewarding and Polocrosse is a great way to give an ex-racehorse a new and exciting career with my current mare loving playing A grade with the best of them. Having ridden a range of horses, hopefully this will be an advantage going into the World Cup. It is a real honour after years of hard work, sacrifice and perseverance to make it onto the World Cup team for the first time. It is especially exciting to be competing in a World Cup hosted by Australia, the largest Polocrosse playing nation in the world, surrounded by such a fantastic UK team.
