Story
The European lacrosse community has taken it upon themselves to ensure safe passage and accommodation for our lacrosse brethren in the Ukraine, as well as their close friends and families. People from all over Europe have come together and produced around 25+ homes (and counting) for individuals or families to stay at. The response and desire to help has been overwhelming.
We are in touch with the Ukrainian Lacrosse Federation and they are aware of the support we are offering, and while immediate obstacles have been worked out (such as transport from the Polish border and temporary Visa access to the various different countries), there will still be plenty to do as people continue to arrive.
Due to the very nature of the conflict, many people are unable to bring a great deal with them. Anything from food, to nappy cream and diapers, to phone chargers and ongoing expenses will need to be catered for in the short to medium term.
We recognise that this atrocity and the resulting displacement will not be fixed overnight, and may come with many complications (e.g psychological trauma) that require professional help. We will do everything we can to ensure that Ukrainian lacrosse players are back on the field, safe and doing what they love asap.
There are success stories with members of the Ukrainian Lax community already staying in spare rooms across Europe. They have not just been given a place to stay but the ability to integrate into the Lax Community. In Luxembourg, one player has already attended a lax practice. Baby steps in trying to help with normality.
