10 days ago Sasha woke to a blast at her apartment in Kiev. Grabbing her young daughter she and her partner drove in terror to fetch her parents and then driving for hours to her uncles. Getting to the border heartbreak saying farewell to her partner who had to find the courage to say goodbye perhaps for ever as he returned to fight. Her uncle took the car to return to save his own family. The family had help from the amazing Hungarian volunteer (pictured) who drove them too Budapest. The bags by their feet is everything they have with them. Their home is gone and their peaceful lives destroyed. The Shabalyas have been like family to us for years hosting my father when he visited with warm and loving hospitality - they have never asked anything from anyone before.
