Story
The Ukrainian Children of War project is a cooperation between the Edinburgh based Dnipro Appeal charity, the Ukrainian Community in Edinburgh, the Ministry of Social Policy in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Consulate in Edinburgh, the River of Life charity (Ріка Життя) in Ukraine, and volunteers/host families in the Edinburgh region.
In the first half of October 2016, 20 children aged 9-15, that have lost their fathers in the war in Ukraine, will travel to Scotland for a 10-day holiday full of new experiences and nice surprises.
The children will live with host families in the Edinburgh region and will take part in a number of joint activities and visits during their stay. We will visit the Zoo, the Castle, Deep Sea World, Dynamic Earth, we will travel to the higlands to meet the hairy coos and we will try fish&chips in Anstruther.
By taking the children away from their everyday activities in Ukraine, we hope to give them good memories and experiences to help them cope with the recent loss of a parent.
The project is conducted in accordance with Scottish and Ukrainian law, and all host families and volunteers go through the appropriate legal checks and vetting processes required to be allowed to work with children. Any money left over at the end will go back into the work done by Dnipro Appeal and River of Life in Ukraine.

Ukrainian Children of War
8 years agoThe children have visited Scotland and left for home again, and it was a massive success for everyone involved! We have certainly made an impact in their lives, but they have also made a big impact in our lives. We will continue to support these children, first up will be to send them all a christmas present from Scotland. Any funds donated on this page until it closes at the end of the month, will go towards this purpose. We will do future fund raisers once we have organised and decided how the project will proceed. THANK YOU!
