Uky and Lola: In the Land of Fire is a Chilean animated project dedicated to the the Selk'nam tribe – an indigenous Patagonian tribe legendary for its a unique relationship with nature and magic.

The Selk’nam ruled Patagonia from more than 9000 years, but sadly around 1890, they were murdered and conquered by new arrivals – the devilish Shepherds who accused the Selk’nam of killing their livestock. The Selk’nam survivors were be relocated to a Christian missionary sanctuary, where they died from smallpox and other infections brought by the Europeans.

Most of the cultural records would have been lost if it were not for Lola Kjiepka, a courageous Selk’nam known as the last Selk'nam shaman. She was the first to document the singings and the chanting rituals and worked with the British anthropologist Anne Chapman. Their efforts saved a 7000 year old culture from being forgotten.

The ethnocide never saw justice. With this film we are looking to open the conversation and raise awareness around the Selk’nam culture and what happened. Our mission is to clarify history and bring honour to the thousands Selk’nam spirits who perished to the colonization of Patagonia.

We are currently in the film pre-production, and we are trying to dedicate our full time to this project. We are asking for your help to keep this exciting project alive and to finish the first trailer.
