parkrun is coming to Wivenhoe at the University of Essex but only with your help

The Wivenhoe and running community need to raise £4,800 to enable it to happen, via the Colchester Harriers. The Colchester Harriers have donated £500, reducing the total target to £4,500 including Just Giving fees of £200.

parkrun is a free, community 5k event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. It takes place every Saturday morning in 1,446 locations around the UK. Permission for a parkrun has been granted at the University of Essex, a core team of volunteers is in place and the final hurdle is to raise the one-off funds to cover the parkrun equipment set up costs. These include equipment for timekeeping, scanning, signage, insurance, training, high vis vests for volunteers, finish line equipment and IT costs including licencing, a contribution to the results database and a dedicated event webpage.

To encourage your support, Nate Filer will run 100 laps of 500 metres/0.3 miles by looping around The Station Pub along West St to Wivenhoe Boutique, up the High St to RSVP by the bridge, and back round to The Station Pub….….100 times!

This will equate to 50km’s/31 miles, and we hope the pain, agony and tedium which he will endure will encourage you to support the creation of a parkrun, here in Wivenhoe, at the University of Essex.

The run will take place at 9am on Saturday 12th September.
