Story
UoL Racing was founded in 2013 as an EV team and has now fully transitioned to an IC team consisting of over 50 members. After years of steady progress, the project underwent a significant revival in the past 2 seasons – with changes being implemented at every level from management through to engineering processes.
The first of these changes was setting a good foundation – we focused on building a team first and car second, as we believe the success of any good Formula Student team relies on getting the basics right first. To support this transition, a business team was created to focus on 3 key areas crucial to the development of the team. Following that, in 2021 we had our most successful concept class entry to date – scoring 5 times as many points compared to previous years. Last year saw the team’s first physical entry with an IC car, and again this was our best entry to date. We passed 4/6 scrutineering stages – safety, tech, chassis and tilt, which has never been achieved before by the team. Unfortunately, we were unable to get the car running at competition as a result of issues identified during testing due to a lack of time.
Equipped with the knowledge we have gained from lessons learnt over the past year and feedback from competition, we feel confident that we can put forward a competitive entry this season. To ensure success, we have created targets addressing the shortcomings of our previous entries, such as ensuring the car is ready 2 months prior to competition for adequate testing time. Although the core team values and aspirations of ensuring project longevity and handover remain, the team now looks forward to focusing further on improving performance. This will be achieved by attempting more ambitious concept designs and mass reduction across the car.
Achieving success at competition this year will be pivotal in the knowledge and experience gained for UoL Racing and our future teams to come.
Thank you in advance for your support and interest!
