Story

URGENT APPEAL FOR HELP TO DONATE MONEY AND/OR MAKE RE-USABLE COTTON SURGICAL MASKS AND VISORS.

Many of us know or love someone who has or continues to fight cancer, been an organ donor recipient, is diabetic, suffers respiratory or other high risk indicators that dramatically increase their risk of contracting COVID-19.

Jersey has many extremely concerned care home providers, hospices, volunteers and frontline staff who are at increasingly high risk of becoming sick and being forced to self-isolate with COVID-19. Their efforts are tireless but it is critical that such workers along with other essential workers, including sub-contractors, approved store employees, public transport providers (taxis, buses, airlines, delivery drivers etc) are provided with medical PPE (personal protective equipment) ASAP and have enough supplies for at least 3 more months as they continue to fight the crisis.

The States have been focusing on sourcing COVID-19 testing kits for our GPs and hospital. We are seeking your help to urgently raise funds to help all frontline workers who are NOT receiving States or Parish funding.

We are working closely with private GPs, their wonderful families, friends and contacts in our Island community to co-ordinate those who need urgent medical PPE. We are negotiating with various overseas suppliers of PPE but by the time we petition the States for funding and receive the requisite PPE, precious days will pass. We have had some problems last week with orders for surgical gloves ordered 2 weeks ago being stopped by UK customs and not permitted to leave the UK which is a dangerous precedent.

Any donation received will go directly towards purchasing bulk orders of medical grade 3 ply moisture resistant masks, surgical nitrile gloves, surgical hats, disposable visors, disposable aprons, hand sanitisers and any other supplies needed to protect our frontline workers and our loved ones under their care.

ONE MASK COSTS IN MATERIALS ALONE APPROX £4.

No donation is too small - even just £5 for your daily coffee adds up!
