I've raised £8000 to repair and install a functioning shower, sink, hot water tank and other essentials in a women's shelter.

3 women were relocated to a domestic violence shelter in Birmingham, Alabama, which is badly in need of major repairs.
Some of these inhumane conditions are:
•No working shower
•No working bathtub
•No working sink
•No water heater or hot water
•No air conditioner (the heat is very intense)
•No beds to sleep on
•Exterior doors without doorknobs
•The back door is nailed shut with boards
•A dangerous and broken stove
•Huge holes in the floors and walls
•Severe roach, ant and insect infestation
•Plus so many other minor problems.
This shelter helps women from all walks of life who are in need of personal safety, housing, and assistance with rebuilding their lives after they escaped unimaginable abusive and dangerous situations.
The shelter also helps these women regain their independence through various programs, such as: job skills, life skills, domestic violence avoidance, therapy, support groups, advanced education, coping skills for the sexually, physically and emotionally abused, and much more.
These women will also learn to live on their own again, and will eventually be assisted in securing their very own permanent and safe housing after they each complete the custom programs designed for their individual needs.
As if these living conditions wouldn't be hard enough to cope with, these women also deal with severely debilitating mental and physical disabilities.
The shelter and related programs are mostly operated by unpaid, volunteer staff, and yet proper funding to create acceptable living conditions for these women doesn't seem to be forthcoming.
Because of the lack of resources and pure desperation, we are asking, begging and praying for your help to create safe and habitable living conditions for these women.
Just like anyone else, these women should be able to free themselves from their abusive and dangerous situations and NOT feel punished for that decision by living in such deplorable conditions!
These living conditions make their personal growth much more difficult to achieve.
Please, just put yourself in their shoes for a moment, and ask yourself how badly YOU would want someone to help you, in any way, so you could get back on your feet and live a rich, fulfilling life.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and God bless you all.
