My sister Yvonne was in a road traffic accident when she was just aged 22 years. This accident left her paralysed and without the use of her right arm.

Post her accident Yvonne has lived the most incredible life and is a true inspiration to her many friends and family in Jersey, Channel Islands, where she lives.

She has lived and worked independently over the past thirty years and has earned her own living, paid for her own carers and supported her family financially whenever she could. Yvonne works for the States of Jersey within the Skills Jersey Department, which is part of the Education Department.

She lives in a beautiful States Housing Flat in Jersey which she has carefully planned, brought to life and interiorly designed to create a tranquil peaceful place to live.

She has raised money for Charity throughout her life and have given selflessly to charities on an ongoing basis despite her own personal financial circumstances.

In 1984 Yvonne travelled to Rome for a holiday and visited the Vatican and met with the then Pope Paul III.

In 1986 Yvonne raised a large sum of money for Spinal Research and as a consequence was invited to Buckingham Palace to attend a Spinal Research Ball and the invitation came directly from the late Lady Dianna Spencer.

Yvonne has been to Disneyworld with the family of one of her private carers and swam with the Dolphins.

Yvonne has been involved with the Duke of Edinburgh Ships and has been on holiday with them sailing around the coast of Great Britain, though she did not appreciate being on '4am Watch' duties as it was very cold!

Yvonne gives so much of herself to others and never ever asks for anything in return.

I would now like to ask for some help for her as her sister and Primary Carer for the last five years, I shall tell you why she now needs your help:

In 2011 Yvonne again went on holiday to France, Lourdes and unfortunately contracted a pressure sore, which she has now had for the last six years.

As a consequence Yvonne can no longer work full time as she would like to. Her current goal is to work till she is 60 years of age and retire from employment having supported herself since her accident. Yvonne is now 58 years old.

Yvonne still works for Skills Jersey, but only part time, four mornings a week as she has to have complete bed rest to try and heal her pressure ulcer. Yvonne now spends most of her life on her bed, on her side to try to heal the pressure ulcer.

On the 9th July 2018 Yvonne was transferred to the RNOH in Stanmore Middlesex for treatment and surgery. She is expected to be in hospital for at least five months.

Yvonne has funded a lot of her medical expenses herself over the years and it has been six years since she has been paying for dressings, vac pac treatment, creams etc for her sore. Yvonne currently uses most of her wages and savings to pay for all of her medical provisions, with help from the Social Security Department in respect of Long Term Incapacity Benefit.

Yvonne is not a financially wealthy lady, though she is very rich in spirit and heart and love for life and all the people in her life.

It breaks my heart that she should have to pay so much of her money out to something that is beyond her control, yet she never complains, nor gets depressed or anxious about anything as she has tremendous faith and knows that God and all her 'Guardian Angels' will never let her down.

However I think she now deserves a little more help from US and all her friends and ALL the people that love her so much and want her back in Jersey as soon as possible.

We come as a package as there is only two years between us and we have helped and supported each other over the years. I also need a little help two so that I can continue to support her and be with her as much as I can.

I moved back to Jersey in 2013 to live with Yvonne and be her Primary Carer Giver as she is often confined to bed and requires someone now to live with her.

I am Jersey born myself, though lived in the Isle of Man since 1988. Both my children are Manx and have grown up here. Since moving back to Jersey in 2013 I have been unable to visit my family in the Isle of Man as often as I would have liked and my relationships have suffered accordingly as a consequence. I am now back in the Isle of Man and will hopefully be commuting back and forth to London to visit Yvonne whilst she is in Hospital and then back to Jersey when Yvonne is finally discharged.

This all requires an awful lot of funding which is at times overwhelming to keep up with and to manage and allocate funds to where they are best needed.

CAN YOU POSSIBLE HELP US OUT A LITTLE IF YOU CAN, WE DON'T NEED MUCH, just a little help to continue to see each other as much as possible and also to try and restore Yvonne's savings back up to a respectable level so that when she retires and when she is fit and well again we can go on a cruise around the Baltics or somewhere nice as Yvonne so deserves to continue living such a full and spiritually rich life as she has done so thus far.
