Having been managing a Children's home with a good friend of mine we have decided to start a new venture. There is a serious lack of resources and support in the local area for families who struggle with children who have behavioural, social and emotional difficulties. Together we have extensive knowledge and good experience of support children and young people who live with these issues as well as child and adolescent mental health. Our aim is to set up a support service which is accessible to families who need support to manage behaviour, meet other families and enjoy activities that "normal" families do together. We understand the struggle and impact these issues have on family life and how difficult it can be just to get out the door to school in the mornings. The aim of our service will be to provide information and support to families to help them learn to manage the behaviour in a positive way as well as providing activities and events which encourage social development and emotional resilience.
Alongside this work can be offered to parents to learn to understand what life is like in their child's world and how to help ease the anxieties and distresses their child may be facing in the big world around them.
To get the service up and running we need to fund insurance and resources and be able to provide some outcomes to take the project/service to local authorities to ask for funding. We want to be able to provide the service free to families who need the support and are stuck on long waiting lists. To do this though we need to be sponsored and be able to show we have good outcomes. We are asking for any donations people can offer to the cause to get us started in the first few months before we secure a sponsorship and we are also looking for some families to work with and have their cases recorded to show as outcomes to the potential sponsors!
