Story
On 20th May I will be running the Worcester Half Marathon to raise funds for the Recovery Shoebox Project.
This wonderful project offers vital practical support to those suffering with mental health conditions. It is the brain child of the inspirational Megan Reid, who started the project following her own traumatic experience. She realised that there was a gap in mental health services support and started the shoebox project as a way of filling this gap in care.To quote Megan herself:
"No one is too well or too ill to receive a box and everyone is deserving of better. Each box contains a starter kit containing items to promote self care, distraction and distress tolerance in the hopes that individuals can learn to cope with their thoughts, emotions and improve their general mental health".
The project was officially launched in May 2017 and is completely funded by donations and by Megan herself. Boxes are sent out free of charge and can provide a vital lifeline to many.
I love running and have been very fortunate to have been able to use exercise to support me mentally and physically as part of my own journey as a ME/CFS sufferer. This is the first time in some years, however, that I have felt brave enough to commit to running 13.1 miles. Megan's story and that of the people she has helped have been a massive inspiration to me as I have entered the most challenging part of my training.
A donation of just £3 would cover the postage charge for one box, making a powerful and incalculable difference to someone's life. I would be so grateful for any support you are able to offer which would enable Megan and her team of volunteers the opportunity to continue their important work.
