Story
Vectis Radio Community Radio station, based at the Riverside Centre in Newport, is operated largely by a team of volunteers who present programmes, produce, podcast and work extremely hard to bring a variety of music, current affairs, fun and information to the 4000+ listeners worldwide via the internet.
Additionally The Vectis Radio 4Ps course is run exclusively by Vectis Radio to introduce students/teenagers to the basic and essential skills relating to radio Presenting, Production, Promotion and Podcasting (hence the 4Ps). The course is free for 11-19 year olds (up to 25 years if they have additional needs) and in the past three years has seen 60 young people go through The Four P’s course with 11 to 19 year olds attending 4 sessions each week. The Isle of Wight Counci's Youth Offer has sponsored the 4Ps course to date.
Vectis Radio has now been granted an FM licence by Ofcom and has agreed a site where the mast and aerial can be erected. The mast, aerial, transmitter and it’s peripherals, licences etc., are going to cost in the region of £10,000 in the first instance.
We will be extremely grateful for donations towards the initial setting up of the FM station.
Vectis Radio involves the community as much as possible in the operation of station by promoting local events, charities and often carries out outside broadcasts from the premises of businesses and/or charities. It prides itself on giving opportunities to anyone interested in broadcasting their own show regardless of age or ability. It has developed a strong bond with the community since it’s inception five years ago, and regularly broadcasts to over 4000 listeners and has listeners in over 50 countries.
Fundraising is essential for Vectis Radio to be able transmit in and around the Newport Area on FM for the next five years. The volunteers will continue with their work to present a variety of music shows, interviews, debates and plays as before.

8 years agoTo date we have raised £690, which is fantastic, but we are in need of more please. Via some other means of contribution our total is nearly at £2,000, but we still need more. If you can possibly spare a few pounds we would be very grateful indeed. Our work is with the community, for the community and our volunteers are all from the community. We love the work we do with young people from the ages of 11 upwards. So many have boosted their confidence, made their own programmes and some have their own regular shows on Vectis Radio. Please help
