Story

Education in Costa Rica is very accessible - free and compulsory, but over 280,000 children do not attend because their families rely on them to generate income. Despite high living standards, profound poverty still affects some individuals of low social status in Costa Rica - many living on just £1 a day! Young children have been found to be a part of disgusting means of genertaing cash for their families, including child prostitution, drug abuse, gang violence and various street crimes.

Thankfully, an increase in government intervention has led to many children being taken out of their homes were they are mistreated and placed in social welfare housing, which is heavily supported by local organisations.

It is so wrong that children so young have been through such traumatic experiences, and I really want to be able to help be a part of turning their lives around for the better. These children, just like we once were, just like the children in our lives now, have so much potential and so much life to live. I want to assist in any way that I can so that these children have the support that they need and deserve to have a better life. This is why I have joined Plan My Gap Year to take part in their volunteer project where I personally can help the children and the organisations in Costa Rica.

I ask that if any of my friends and family have any money they can spare to make this possible, to please donate here. All of the money I pay goes straight to the program and ensures my safety while I am volunteering abroad.

Remember every penny counts, and is so very much appreciated.

Thank you all for your support and kindness, I cannot wait to share my journey with you!
